Recommend a duet (S, A)

topic posted Tue, February 13, 2007 - 11:29 PM by  Heather
I'm taking a musical theater class and paired up with an Alto - I can range from Alto through Soprano. Can anyone recommend a good duet for women's voices - doesn't have to be a "show tune", I'm thinking a folk song might be good too. My partner has a folksy sort of voice :-)

My brain is just not coming up with any good duets for Soprano and Alto - help!

Somewhere I've got the S.A. version of "Old Mother Hubbard (set in the style of Handel)" by Victor Hely-Hutchinson

My friend Pat, who is active in Seattle-area musical theater, sang a crisp SA arrangement of "Where or When" with her sister at a picnic last summer. I expect she picked up the score at Capitol Music...which should make such accessible in the Bay area. Swung softly...

Well, it's probably too late for your class, but if you're still interested, here are a few good female duets from the musical theatre repertoire:

"A Boy Like That/ I Have a Love" from West Side Story
"I Still Believe" from Miss Saigon
"In His Eyes" from Jekyll & Hyde
"Every Day a Little Death" from A Little Night Music
"Marry the Man Today" from Guys and Dolls
"The Joy of Motherhood" and "It Takes All Sorts" from Honk!
"I Know Him So Well" from Chess
"How The Other Half Lives" from Thoroughly Modern Millie
"We Are Women" from Candide (if you want to get very ambitious!)
