Captain Corcoran's daughter is due to be betrothed to the upper-class Cabinet Minister in charge of the entire Navy, but she falls in love with a lowly sailor under her father's command. Gilbert and Sullivan's first smash hit satirizes the British class system, with a surprise twist ending.
